I’ve welcomed the first normal post-COVID-19 Summer with open arms. And it’s definitely one to remember - from visiting the Hagia Sofia in Istanbul to experiencing the hottest Summer (40.2°C) in London. Still looking for ideas? May I tempt you with some September suggestions?

WHERE TO GO

1. Amalfi Coast, Italy

Ever heard of the Isle of Capri? Fly into Naples, the birthplace for pizza, and take the ferry straight to the Sorrento. From there, make day trips to Capri, Positano, Amalfi and Ravello. Be sure to spend some time at the beach club (our favourite is Hotel Santa Caterina ) and book a boat tour to see the Blue Grotto.

2. Istanbul, Turkey

After relaxing testing rules for international arrivals in June, it’s a good time to explore the city where East meets West. Avoid the old town because the sites (Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar and Spice Bazaar) can all be seen in a day. Instead, stay in Karaköy to explore the trendy coffee shops, Galata for that Instagram photo or Nişantaşı for luxury shopping. A visit to Dolmabahçe Palace is a must.

3. Puglia, Italy

Southern Italy has become increasingly popular and with good reason. I’ve had the best figs and almond gelato at Gelateria Piccinni and meal of the year at Osteria Del Tempo Perso. Fly into Bari and train your way across the coast. Stay at Bari, Polignano a Mare (this AirBnB) and Lecce. And make day trips to Ostuni and Alberobello.

4. Split, Croatia

I’ve never heard of people going to Croatia until a few years ago, most likely thanks to Game of Thrones. Every July, Split hosts Ultra Europe and welcomes the best of EDM. Aside from the festival, the city has so much to offer. Visit Kasjuni Beach for the unique cliff backdrop and Trogir for a lesson in renaissance.

WHAT TO WEAR

The White Shirt

A day-to-night Summer essential. This fitted cotton shirt sits just below the waist and has two large pockets. It’s lightweight, stretchy and a no-brainer for packing on those hand luggage trips.

The Terry Set

Feeling snug but don’t want to sacrifice style? The terry polo and shorts set is plush and comes in four colours. I’ve chosen the Meerkat shorts for a pop of colour to stroll around the markets, and the Green polo that’s been a life savour at post-work drinks.

The Pink Suede Sandals

For me, the combination of suede and Summer means two words: ultimate luxury. I may have already scuffed my pair and have yet to brave them next to a pool. Note the Regenerated Suede by evolo® is a sustainable and supposedly durable option; the fabric also covers the insoles (so socks and sandals wearers like myself will continue the practice).

THE VEST

Admittedly, I’ve been eyeing on knit vests because of its many appearances on social media feeds. This one from MR P. is less itchy than my other v-neck. I’ve managed to find a few days, between heatwaves, to wear this piece. And it’s one which I will be sure to pair over a white shirt - it’s an all-year piece. Similar here and here.
