Living Apart Together
Titled “Living Apart Together”, Berluti presents its Winter 2021 collection in two parts: a digital release followed by a live presentation in Shanghai. Bringing its metaphor to life, the distinctive felt bucket hat and shirt with ombré hues were donned by influencers around the globe.
Marking Van Assche’s sixth collection, the designer continues its established relationship with creative consultant Yoann Lemoine. Working with new video director Antoine Asseraf, the 4-minute virtual show experience was presented precisely against the traditional runway. Models paced around a studio floor marked with masking tape of primary colours. The same colourful hues were then used as backdrops to serve as a breaking point to separate the looks.
Considering Van Assche’s history of bridging sartorial and streetwear, this particular collection was one that favoured towards the sartorial. By bringing Berlin painter Lev Khesin’s works to life, the inspiration throughout the concealed placket shirts, turtleneck and double-breasted suit.
For a brand that prides and found its savoir-faire through shoes, Van Assche has shown great success in introducing the Berluti patina into ready-to-wear in the past 3 years. Bags have also come in updated shapes, along with the signature canvas. Both of which are adorned with charms, such as the Berluti signature shoe tree and upcycled pendants made with leather overstock by Spanish artist Joge Penadés.
