The Bold Concept (this blog, my baby) celebrated its 10 years in June this year. For those who've stuck around since the dawn of time would know my deep love for photography, collating 3:4 images and David Cutter music. (thanks, Aimee).

In the past decade, I could put sense to the fact that so much has changed, and yet not much has changed at all. What has changed: tumblr died, social media is now all about videos and you’d catch me on the street recording a fit check video (2014 Jocelyn would be proud but giving the side eye). What hasn’t changed: my passion to style, photography, meet creatives and create editorials like this.

When thinking how I could best celebrate a decade of my blog, I thought a big party is a well deserved way to commemorate my dedication. And yet, the past few months have been a bit of a blur (in a good way, high!) that followed a few months of serious seasonal depression. In those moments of feeling lost, I realised that I created this space initially for the very love of fashion and fashion alone. That I intend to keep this part of my life going as long as I can - till death do us part. I have a lot of people to thank. The PRs that believed in me when I first started. In truth, the real reason I am still able to sustain the blog is the many heartfelt full circle moments - ones that truly make me “aw” out loud. I thank these ladies for being my fashion heroes: Susie Bubble , Tina Leung, Margaret Zhang. And my fairy godmother, Anya Hindmarch (see 2024 and 2012 photo!).

The way we have consumed media has fundamentally changed how I express myself on here though. It’s not to say that hacking out these photos and videos don’t give me joy. Quite the contrary, because even typing this post out feels so incredibly cathartic. And, despite my love for short-form video (see Jason and I “Mamushi”), the quick euphoria from a 11-second dance will never truly uncover the layers and complexity that photos and words can speak.

Meet Jason, a Hong Kong raised pop singer-songwriter based in East London. Having recently debuted his new EP, he’s currently on tour around the UK having celebrated queer joy at various Prides (Birmingham, London and most recently Amsterdam). He made his Glastonbury Festival debut with a 45 minute solo set and last year opened for Rina Sawayama at Electrowerkz. His music is catchy too - I’ve lost count to the amount of times I’ve hummed to Deja Vu even when I was packing up the gear (I’m a kwannie!). And in some ways, I feel like Jason is the superhero I needed growing up.

We managed to do a fitting and shoot in a mere 20 minutes. In part, it was luck - the Iccha Bajaj piece which I’ve eyed since the Istituto Marangoni graduate show fit perfectly on Jason, who was an absolute natural in front of the camera and so easy to work with. It comes with being an artist, but also years of experience performing for pan-asian cabaret The Bitten Peach. Styling and photographing Jason for the performance look in a Peter Thanapon jacket and Jekeun vest and skousers was a pleasure. Adding this one to the books - we championed all Asian designers - another full circle moment!
